Washington is known as ‘Little Washington’ or the “Original”. Located in Beaufort County, Washington today has properties dating back as far as the 1700”s. and as recent as a month ago. The downtown waterfront features historic homes, local businesses, and green space. Also, known to be the medical, cultural, and economic center of Beaufort County. Sights to see include the Turnage Theater. This is the theater that Roy Rodgers rode Trigger up the indoor stairs to the stage.
Washington is home to Down on Main, the restaurant mentioned in the Nicholas Sparks book Dreamland. The Turnage Theater, the only known building in the United States with two theaters in one building. No trip would be complete without a Mermaid Mimosa at Parley’s Sip & Steam. The historic preservation and revitalization of downtown prove that Washington is committed to its motto. “Pride in the Past, faith in the future.”
Washington is 25 nautical miles from the Intracoastal Waterway.
Fishing, and hunting including bears, deer, and birds are popular in-season activities.
The Pamlico Sound and River provide plenty of opportunities for watersports and recreational fishing.
